Yesterday we met with our SS and an inspector from Darbecca. It rained all day and I was soaked by the end of it, but I'm so glad I went because the inspector found a number of faults with the frame, plus it was great to finally meet out SS face-to-face.
Overall he said it was really well constructed, the faults he found were "typical of PD" and usually resolved during the lock-up stage. However, one particular fault (not joining the intersecting wall blocks) can be a real hazard when the tiles go up. There's a chance our frame would slip, and like a few jobs he mentioned (and showed us on his phone!) could end in disaster.
So as soon as we got the report, I emailed to our SS and asked him to rectify asap.
Another issue is the support of our triple-stacker sliding door. As a hebel home, there won't be much structural support under the door frame. Our SS admitted he doesn't know how to fix it, but will seek advice from the engineers/hebel installers.
Windows went in recently too - love how big and open they are, really connecting us with the landscape. I'm going to love seeing the river and parkland each morning.
Hello John and Cory,
ReplyDeleteReally good to read your blog and follow your build
One question, do Darbecca re inspect to make sure the issues are rectified?
Good luck with everything!
Hi - I believe Darbecca can come back for a re-inspection, but charge extra for this. We have a great relationship with our SS this far - they have been quick to rectify any problems or to explain why things were done in a certain way.
DeleteThanks for your reply,
ReplyDeleteI am building soon and will use Darbecca, and hope all goes well!
